The Wind of Inspiration DIY Project: Flower Embellished Sunglasses

Fall is here! Even though it’s still pretty warm in New York, you can feel it in the air. Why not to celebrate this beautiful season with my first DIY project on this blog?! With the very floral DIY…

I've been meaning to do this DIY for several months now… I even bought all the supplies needed and pictured the design in my head. Never did it! Until today... After listening to the rain for the whole day I finally felt like I have to do that. And it doesn’t matter that it’s fall already if you have flowers in your heart! :) Besides, florals are still incredibly trendy this Fall/Winter 2012/2013 season. So, if you’re not tired of your closet in bloom, this is a nice chance to be creative and open-minded about winter prints.

Got inspired? Here are the simple DIY tips on how to make flower embellished sunglasses.

You will need:
- a pair of sunglasses
- floral embellishments
- glue or glue gun

I found out that the best place to buy floral embellishments is eBay.com. The variety of forms and colors is incredible and prices are unbelievably low. Just search the site for resin flatback flower cabochons and pay attention to the size. My flowers are 10x10mm and 15x15mm.

First of all, I’d suggest you play with your pair of sunglasses for a while and think about the design. The final result will be much better and accurate if you know where exactly you want to place your flower embellishments from the very beginning.

In contrast to many other similar DIYs, I'd recommend you go symmetrically. Don't do the whole one part first and then another. Go flower by flower on both sides. That way you'll be able to cover any design flaws if necessary and the finished sunnies will look much accurate.

Don't be afraid to go outside of the main frame. Be creative! Include the arms in your design as well.

Think of using floral embellishments in different sizes, colors and types. It will give you more styling opportunities later. Or go with the flowers of the same color as your sunglasses. I'm actually thinking about decorating another pair, black on black this time.

Be very accurate with the glue, especially near the glass. You surely don't need any stains. Not applying a small amount of glue to the backside of the flower as I intended before, but applying the glue onto the sunglasses themselves just before placing the flower perfectly worked for me and helped me to avoid any flaws .

If you decorate both the frame and the arms, be careful - don't place the flowers too close to each other. You should be able to fold and unfold the sunglasses easily, without breaking the embellishments.

The last step is unfold the sunglasses and let them dry for several hours. Make sure they dried completely before wearing to avoid eyes irritation caused by the glue.

Voilà! The beautiful flower embellished sunglasses are ready to wear!
